The end of Series 7 was just epic, can’t believe we have to wait till November for the 50th Special and who exactly is John Hurt’s Doctor? The Valeyard? So much speculation online already and so long to wait!

BTW just so you know this image that is kicking around the internet, although very cool IS NOT official, I found the source and it’s an artist on DeviantArt who mocks up posters, logos and DVD style covers.

E-Cig Mod - 11th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver

Everyone has e-cigs nowadays, my mate reckoned mine looked like a sonic screwdriver, so I thought, “challenge accepted!”

I got one of the toy sonic screwdrivers, 11th doctor of course, and took all the workings out of the middle and with lots of fiddling created this! I heated up a screwdriver to melt some holes and clear some other bits out, then used some gentle brute force to clear the rest of the components out and I fitted the e-cig inside. Using leftover parts from the spring mechanism and a sequin I fashioned a button on to top to line up with the hole I’d melted. (Be warned heating up screwdrivers with a gas hob is dangerous!!!)

I used a Clearomizer CE4 E-Cig which I got from E-Cig Mods with a Drip Tip adaptor.

Good luck to anyone who tries a similar mod, this took about 5 hours to do, but at least you know it can be done!

Chris Cobb, an artist based in San Francisco, has created an amazing installation in bookshop called Adobe Books- he catalogued every single one of the 20,000 books by color. The project is titled There is Nothing Wrong in This Whole Wide World. They were arranged by hand over a 10 hour period, and he enlisted the help of 16 volunteers. Such beautiful results, they transformed the bookshop overnight.

SoundCloud: Change your copyright policy

Soundcloud was a great promotion tool for musicians. Unfortunately, with their new copyright policy, even original content can be flagged as copyrighted content, removed from their website and account from the artists can be closed. Bootlegs, mashups are not allowed anymore, despite the facts that people who make them don’t earn money from them and that some of the biggest artists support them. Account are flagged for spam even when we send just a few non-spam messages.
All we want is that soundcloud change their copyright policy, users pay their premium accounts and they must have the services they paid for. All we want is a real promotion tool, like it was the case over the past years, and not a website just to have fancy audio players.

I fully agree with this stupid corporate money grabbing attempt to prevent piracy, it definitively isn’t doing any such thing! All it’s doing is preventing artists from sharing remixes or mashups, and especially, as in my case promotional DJ Mixes. Every mix I’ve put up recently has been forcibly removed for copyright infringement, which is a crock of shit. Firstly it’s a promo DJ Mix, which has the tracked mixed togethers, all of which I bought on Beatport or legally at least, and it is in fact not only promoting my DJing and events but those artists who’s tracks I use. This stupid automated system is doing far more harm than good! In the end I moved all my mixes to Mixcloud and cancelled my premium membership with Soundcloud, maybe if this changes I’ll pay to use the service again, but something really does need to change. So please share this petition and most of all get it signed!

Google Street View Hyperlapse

Hyper-lapse photography – a technique combining time-lapse and sweeping camera movements typically focused on a point-of-interest – has been a growing trend on video sites. It’s not hard to find stunning examples on Vimeo. Creating them requires precision and many hours stitching together photos taken from carefully mapped locations. We aimed at making the process simpler by using Google Street View as an aid, but quickly discovered that it could be used as the source material. It worked so well, we decided to design a very usable UI around our engine and release Google Street View Hyperlapse.

The site settings are purposely low (like having a maximum of 60 frames per animation) for greater accessibility. However, all the source code is available on Github (including examples and documentation) so developers can play with higher frame rates, better image quality, and more complicated camera movements.

This is amazing, I’m absolutely addicted to creating Hyperlapses out of local roads now, lol. Would be nice if it was easier to make longer videos though.
